William J. Akerman, Jr., 88, of Metter died Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at his home under hospice care. Born in Bulloch County, the son of William James and Sadie Atwood Akerman, he was a World War II veteran serving in the Army and was a member of American Legion Post 90. Living most of his life in Bulloch County, he was a retired farmer who loved hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Christie Bray; a brother, John Akerman; three sisters, Mattie Herron, Edna Bacon and Ida Belle Hodges.
Survivors are two sons, William James Akerman, III of Register and Frank Akerman of Metter; two daughters, Linda Nolan of Eldgin, TX and Sadie Rewis of Metter; five grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Friday, 11:00 am, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, with Pastor April Bragg officiating. Burial will be in Lower Lotts Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Jerry Deal, William Davis, Jesse Walker, Roger McCullogh, Franklin Dale Akerman and Greg NeSmith.
