Wanda Sue Leverett, 67, of Statesboro and formerly of Metter passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2020 in Statesboro after a brief illness.
Born in Metter she was a daughter of Fred Leverett and Jeanette Findley Leverett. Wanda was a member of Metter Primitive Baptist Church. She worked for the City of Metter, a city that she truly loved, as City Manager and later City Administrator and retired from the City of Metter in 2004 after thirty-two years of service. Wanda loved fishing, skiing, being in the water and being in the sun. She loved the Suwanee River and singing “summertime” and loved watching tv shows, reading, and most of all, she loved her family. Wanda was known by many for having a big heart and was known as a daredevil. She loved to cook and her fried shrimp were unbeatable. She taught her children how to be strong and independent, a trait that they pass on to other family members still today. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Wayne Leverett.
“Don’t cry for me, I will be okay. Heaven is my home now, and this is where I’ll stay. Don’t cry for me. I’m where I belong. I want you to be happy and try to stay strong. Don’t cry for me. nIt was just my time, but I will see you someday on the other side. Don’t cry for me, I am not alone. The angels are with me to welcome me home. Don’t cry for me, for I have no fear. All my pain is gone, and Jesus took my tears. Don’t cry for me. This is not the end. I’ll be waiting here for you when we meet again.”
Surviving are her significant other of twenty-six years, Randy Taylor of Statesboro; her sons, Dustin Mercer (Jennifer) of Metter and David Taylor (Kerri) of Savannah; daughters, Angie Nightingale (Keith) of Hilton Head Island and Lynnie Brooke Taylor of Valdosta; her sister, Patricia Leynes (Bob) of Valdosta; her grandchildren, Maggie Mercer, Anna Lisa Mercer, John Aiden Mercer, Peyton Mercer, Marshall and Corbin Taylor, and Briley Brooke and Braydon Clemens; and several nieces and nephews.
