Vondelle Kicklighter Miles

Vondelle Kicklighter Miles, age 98, died Saturday, June 07, 2014, in Auburn, Alabama, where she had lived since 2000. She was born December 4, 1915 in Glennville, Georgia. A graduate of Glenville High School, she attended Shorter College in Rome, Georgia, and Wesleyan Conservatory in Macon, Georgia. Mrs. Miles moved to Metter, Georgia in 1936 after her marriage to Paul Lindsay Miles, Metter postmaster and civic leader.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her father, Samuel Jasper Kicklighter; her mother, Eva Stanfield Kicklighter; her brother, Quentin Hampton Kicklighter; and two infant brothers, John Merdith Kicklighter and Thurman Clarence Kicklighter.
Mrs. Miles was a member of the Metter First Baptist Church, where she was a pianist and longtime member of the choir. She was a member of the Metter Garden Club and life member of the Garden Club of Georgia. A founding member of the Candler County Historical Society, she wrote the chapter on medicine in the "History of Candler Country." She also served on the Advisory Board of the Candler County Hospital.
Mrs. Miles is survived by her daughter Jan Miles Dempsey and husband Richard Lee Dempsey of Auburn; son Paul Lindsay Miles, Jr. of Princeton, New Jersey, and son John David Miles and wife Deidra Lanier Miles of Statesboro, Georgia; five grandchildren, David Miles Dempsey, Lydia Dempsey Wardell, Richard Lee Dempsey, Jr., John David Miles, Jr., and Jason Paul Miles, and six great-grandchildren, Parker Andrew Wardell, Garrett Paul Wardell, Trevor James Wardell, Marion Miles Dempsey, Matalie Ann Miles, and John David Miles III.
Graveside funeral service and burial will be held, Wednesday, 10:00 am, at the Lake Cemetery at Metter with Rev. William Perry and Rev. James Correll officiating.
