Virginia Meeks Purvis

Virginia Meeks Purvis, of Collins and widow of William Clifford Purvis, Sr., passed away Saturday, October 26, 2024.

Ms. Purvis was a native of Collins and lived most of her life in the area. She was a School Nutritionist at Collins Elementary School where she worked for many years.  She had a love for cooking and enjoyed teaching members of her family how to cook.  Ms. Purvis also loved working in her greenhouse that was like her second home and was always giving plants away to others for them to enjoy.

Surviving are her sons, W.C. Purvis, Jr. and his wife, Lisa of Guyton, Mark Purvis and his wife, Kathy, of Baxley, and Thomas Purvis and his wife, Pam, of Brooklet; several grandchildren, Erin Purvis (Jenny) of Woodstock, Kristen Davis (Richard Edwards) of Guyton, Amy Nettles (Mike) of Springfield, Leanna Cowart (Barry) of Brooklet, Amanda Smith of Statesboro, and Michelle Ross of Virginia Beach, Virginia; her sister, Jeanette Darden of Vidalia; her brother, Fred Meeks of Collins; a sister-in-law, Gail Meeks of Bainbridge, Georgia; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Thursday, October 31, 2024, from 6 until 8 o’clock in the evening at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, of Cobbtown.

The funeral service will be held Friday at 11 o’clock in the morning at Pine Grove Baptist Church with a graveside to follow the service in Anderson Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Erin Purvis, Jacob Jarkow, Mike Nettles, Richard Edwards, Barry Cowart, and Cliff Finch.

Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, of Cobbtown is in charge of the arrangements.
