Troy Lee Purvis, Jr.,90, of Metter and widower of Dorothy “Dot” Ann Fordham Purvis passed away early Monday, December 28, 2020 at Candler County Hospital in Metter.
Born in Stilson, he was a son of Troy Lee Purvis, Sr. and Bertie Ennis Purvis. Mr. Purvis has lived in Metter since 1969 and was a member of Metter Church of God for many years and in recent years was a member of New Life Baptist Church. He served in the National Guard for a brief period of time and was honorably discharged. He worked for Brooks Instruments in Statesboro for several years before his retirement in 1992. In years past he loved fishing with his wife, Dot, as well as his grandchildren and many others. He never met a stranger and he loved to strike up a conversation. He loved to sing and always woke up with a song in his heart. He was known to be a joyful person and his nickname that many people knew him by was “Senior Purv”. In addition to his wife, Mr. Purvis was preceded in death by his daughter, Phyllis Ann Purvis Lamb, a great-grandson, Cohen Lamb, and his son-in-law, Tab Hadden.
Surviving are his daughter, Lesia Purvis Hadden of Metter; a son, Mike Purvis of Metter; his brothers, Gene C. Purvis, and Kenneth Aubrey Purvis both of Savannah; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a great-great grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 1 until 1:45 p.m. in the afternoon, Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, of Metter.
The graveside service will be held 2 o’clock in the afternoon, Wednesday, December 30, 2020 in Lake Cemetery with Elder Craig Lanier officiating.
Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, of Metter is in charge of the arrangements.
