Mr. Timothy Charles Gast, age 73, of Metter, died Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia, after a brief illness.  He was a native of Merritt Island, Florida and was a 1970 graduate of Merritt Island High School.  He lived in Cocoa, Florida for many years before moving to Metter in 1994.  While in high school, he was a volunteer firefighter. It was his passion for firefighting and his love for helping others that led him to become a firefighter.  He retired after twenty-eight years as Captain from Palm Bay Fire Department in Brevard County, Florida.  He enjoyed riding his Harley, classic cars and trucks, antique tractors, and drag racing.  Preceding him in death was his parents, Charles Earl Gast and Frances Judy Gast.

His family includes; two children, Erin Leigh Googe and husband Tony of Glenwood and Adam Gast of Cocoa, Florida, three siblings, Marlene Gast of Alabama, Paul Gast and wife Laura of Metter, and Jonathan Gast and wife Lori of Merritt Island; one grandson, Chandler Alan Edwards and wife Rachael of North Carolina; five great-grandchildren, Elana, Grayson, Walker, Rider, and Dallas Edwards; three nieces, Sara Wadell and husband John, Melissa Goodman and husband Justin, and Ashley Gast; one nephew, Matthew Gast and wife Shasta; and several great nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held later.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, PO Drawer 498, Emmitsburg, MD 21727 or by visiting their website at firehero.org.

Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home of Vidalia is in charge of arrangements.
