Thomas "Tommy" Leonard Thompson

Thomas “Tommy” Leonard Thompson, 77, of Portal and husband of Barbara Ann Bishop Thompson, passed away Saturday, December 19, 2020 at his residence.

Born in Savannah, he was the son of Ander Felder Thompson and Sarah Amanda Herndon Thompson.  Mr. Thompson was a member of New Life Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Marine Corp.  He was a Union Millwright who worked all over the country.  Mr. Thompson was very dedicated to Michael Guido and assisted him in his ministry and was a security guard at Georgia Southern University, a job for which he dearly loved. Mr. Thompson also enjoyed hunting and fishing.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by a son, Tracy Lane Thompson.

Surviving are his wife of fifty-seven years, Barbara Ann Bishop Thompson of Portal; two sons, Tommy Lee Thompson and Terrell Lyle Thompson both of Portal; a sister, Linda Rogers of Ellabell; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 2 o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at New Life Baptist Church in Metter with Rusty Rushing officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1 o’clock until the funeral hour at the church on Tuesday.

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic all social distancing guidelines will be in place and mask are suggested.

Interment will be held at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville and will be private.
