Sonny L. Smith

Sonny L. Smith 36, of Portal passed away June 18, 2022, at his residence.

Sonny lived in Lakeland prior to moving to Portal last year. He was a Christian and had a big, loving heart and never met a stranger.  He saw the wide-open possibilities of life with eyes like a child.  Nothing constrained his big dreams. Sonny loved to travel and admired the 18-wheelers he so badly wished to man the wheel of.  He could swim like a fish and especially enjoyed lounging with his friends at the Alapaha River in recent years. His love of music was only preceded by the joy he found in mowing grass.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Sharon Franks Smith.

Sonny is survived by his fiancé, love of his life, and supporter and caregiver, Candy Browning of Portal; his father, Harold Smith of Portal; his sisters, Sylvia Moore Rosselle (Shaun), Andrea Smith (Chris) and Tonya Smith; his brother, “Little Danny” Lamb of Marhaven, Florida;  his niece, Lorilei Moore; nephews, Christian and Lemmie Rosselle and George Candler Browning.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday June 22, 2022, at 2 o’clock in the afternoon at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, of Metter. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service.

Interment will be held at a later date.
