Shirley Hodges Sikes, of Metter and widow of RV “Bob” Sikes, passed away early Thursday morning at Candler County Hospital in Metter.
Mrs. Sikes was born in Claxton and lived most of her life in Metter. She was a daughter of Levy and Minnie Eva Hodges. Mrs. Sikes was a member of the Cedar Street Baptist Church and attended the Mary Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Golden Agers Group. She was a very talented and respected seamstress having worked for most of the Textile Factories in the area. She loved to read, sew and going on trips to Good Will. She also loved going to the movies and getting ice cream, but most of all she loved spoiling and taking care of the grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grand-daughter, Jansin Elise Jarrell.
Surviving are her three daughters, Wanda Finnerty of Pulaski, Linda (Troy) Oglesby of Metter, and Bobbie Jo Nasworthy (Jody) of Metter; her sister, Carol Dubberly of Brunswick; her grandchildren, Garrett (Sharon), Shaylin (Roy), and Payce (Chris); her great-grandchildren, Keagan (Michael), Kylie Ann (Blake), Whit, Vana Grace and Hendley; four great-great grandchildren, Annie, Reeli Belle, Olivia, and Brinson; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Saturday, September 30, 2023, from 5 until 7 o’clock in the evening at Cedar Street Baptist Church.
The funeral service will be held Sunday, October 1, 2023, at 3 o’clock in the afternoon at Cedar Street Baptist Church.
Interment will be in Sunlight Cemetery.
Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, of Metter is in charge of the arrangements.
