Sharon Kemp Jenkins, 67, of Richmond Hill, GA passed peacefully into Heaven on April 22, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
Those who were there to greet her in Heaven were her parents, Luke and Susie Kemp and siblings, Juanita Jackson, James Lynwood (Buddy) Kemp, and Eveleen Lanier.
Her memory is kept alive by her husband, Danny Jenkins; children, Susanna Jenkins Henderson (Frank), and Luke Jenkins (Lindsay); grandchildren, Mack Henderson, Charlie Jenkins, Rosemary Henderson, and soon to come Baby Boy Jenkins; siblings, Gertrude Prince, Vivian Strickland, June Waller, JoAnn Carter (Jerry), Ernest D. Kemp (Nancy), Carolyn Kemp, Venda Sapp (Pete), and Sandra Joiner (Jody); brothers-in-law, Roger Jenkins (Diane), and Patrick Jenkins (Renee). She has many loved nieces and nephews along with so many others she considered family and close friends that will forever miss and hold her memory dear.
Sharon was born in Pulaski, GA on March 21st, 1956. She was the youngest of twelve children. Some of her happiest memories were spent on the farm at “The Old House” on Kemp Road. She was a graduate of Metter High School and the Medical College of Georgia. She met and married the love of her life, Danny, while working as an X-ray tech at Bulloch Memorial Hospital in Statesboro. They spent 39 wonderful years together raising their two children, Susanna and Luke.
Sharon retired from University Hospital after 41 years of service in the medical field. She was instrumental in the creation of the Harry T. Harper Jr., M.D., School of Cardiac and Vascular Technology. She was a lover of learning and teaching. She was passionate about her students and their success. She was a devoted and active member of Martinez Baptist Church in Augusta, GA. Her calling was the children’s and young adult ministries. She led AWANAS, Bible Drills, VBS and the College and Career Sunday School class. She was a shining example of a life lived for Jesus.
After retirement Sharon and Danny moved to Richmond Hill, GA where she served as a member of Corinth Baptist Church. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, siblings, and other great friends.
Sharon loved life! Her greatest enjoyments were Thanksgiving at “The Old House”, any and all beaches, The Augusta National, NYC, GSU Football, travelling with her sisters, music, dancing, her Church families, and laughing. She loved parties and having fun. She hosted countless baby and wedding showers for her loved ones and friends. She shared a love for canoe paddling with her husband and friends on the Ogeechee, racing on the Canoochee, and whitewater on the Chattooga. She will be greatly missed by all the people she touched along the way.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, April 25th at First Baptist Church in Metter, GA. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM on Monday, April 24th at the church. Sharon will be laid to rest along side her family at Lake Cemetery in Metter, GA.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the children’s ministries at Martinez Baptist Church in Augusta, GA or Corinth Baptist Church in Richmond Hill, GA.
