Obituary for Scott Maurice Whiddon

In loving memory of Scott Maurice Whiddon born on October 7, 1962, and went home to be with Jesus on February 2, 2024, at the age of 61.  Scott was the cherished son of the late Dr. Claude Maurice Whiddon and Lucy Henderson Whiddon.

Born blind and with special needs, Scott’s life was a testament to the power of spirit over physical limitations.  Despite the absence of physical sight, Scott had a remarkable ability to illuminate even the darkest of situations with his contagious smile, joy, and kindness.

In his healthier and younger days, Scott enjoyed spending time at the Savannah Association for the Blind.  From a very young age, Scott had a profound love for music of all kinds and music played a significant role in his daily routine.  He made weekly visits to the radio station 105.3 and spent time learning with local favorite Jerry Rogers. His all-time favorite activity was attending Atlanta Braves games with his siblings in the summers.  Scott was the apple of his mother’s eye, a constant source of joy and companionship, always holding her right arm everywhere she went.

Scott, a man who never met a stranger, embraced life with an open heart.  While facing the challenges of visual impairment and limited physical ability, Scott became a beacon of inspiration, showing others how to have gratitude for Gods blessings and the resilience to overcome obstacles.

In his later years when his health started to decline, he was fortunate to become like family as a resident at Azalea Health and Rehabilitation in Metter, Georgia.  Their genuine love and care for Scott cannot be expressed in words.  The family will be forever grateful to all the nurses and employees of Azalea Health.  They never failed to make sure his favorite red radio was by his side when he awakened and next to him when he went to sleep.  In the eyes of others, Scott Whiddon was truly an angel on earth.  His legacy is one of love for Jesus, resilience and the profound impact that a luminous spirit can have on the world.  May his memory continue to illuminate the lives of those he leaves behind.

Scott is survived by his siblings, Lucy and Clinton Fonseca, Breck and Anne Marie Whiddon, and Sarah Taylor. And his nephews, Conrad Fonseca, Spencer Fonseca, Merritt Whiddon, Harris Whiddon and Davis Whiddon.

A small private memorial will be held at the family farm and cemetery in Ocilla, Georgia.  He will be laid to rest next to his mother whom he loved so very much.
