Sarah Ward Mills

Sarah Lee Ward Mills went to her heavenly home on January 15, 2025, at the age of 87.  In her own handwriting she stated that her number one priority was her family.  If you were in her presence you were welcomed, fed, and loved.  She loved to cook and fix for others.  She gathered friends wherever she went whether it was her 37 years at Sears Roebuck, her neighborhood, or places around town.  She lived most of her life in North Augusta, South Carolina but came back home to Metter to be with family.  In the last years she moved to Trenton, South Carolina to be with her two boys and good neighbors.  Those that knew her all have special stories to tell of the fun that was Sarah Lee.  She thought she could ride anything but never long enough to get a picture.  Sarah Lee loved to travel and take family with her on many trips to gather memories.

Awaiting her in heaven were her husband Robert Lee Mills and granddaughter Jessica Lauren Mills along with her father, John Lee Ward, Sr., mother, Mary Evelyn Ward, and sister, Mary Ellen Gay.

She will be missed by her two sons, Daniel Lee Mills and Ronnie Lee Mills (Kim) of Trenton, South Carolina; two grandchildren, Kristofer Shawn Mills (Yuki) of Portland, Oregan, Ashley Elizabeth Mills (Brad) of Mill Spring, North Carolina; two great grandchildren, Alaina Cassidy Mills Bonifas (Ian) of Washington D.C and Scarlet Elise Mills of Mill Spring, North Carolina; two brothers, J.L. Ward, Jr (Martha), and James Edward Ward (Gail) of Metter; two sisters, Isabel Sego of Metter and Pam Miller (Bobby) of North Augusta, SC; and many nieces and nephews, who also loved her dearly.

The family wants to extend a special thank you to Lorene Robinson and the caring nurses and staff of Amedisys Hospice.

The funeral service will be held 2 o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, of Metter.

The family will receive friends from 1 o’clock in the afternoon until the time of the funeral on Sunday at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Antioch Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
