Sandra Lee Bedford Chandler, 82, of Metter, GA, passed away on September 25, 2018.
Born in Miami, FL, on April 21, 1936, Sandra was the daughter of Sara Lee Bedford and Fred Byron Bedford. She grew up in Atlanta, GA, and graduated from Hapeville High School in 1954.
Sandra traveled widely during her life, often with AmeriCares, a non-profit charitable organization. She also served as a volunteer member of a community rescue squad for many years. She ultimately retired to Metter, GA, to be close to family. Her greatest pleasure was working in her extensive garden. She was a master gardener with particular skill in growing roses and orchids. Together with husband Charles, she was a major benefactor of the Georgia Southern Botanic Garden.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Charles Chandler of Metter; her son, Ray Chandler of Statesboro; her grandson, Houston Chandler of Statesboro; and brothers Kenneth Bedford of Bronson, FL, and Byron Bedford of Tampa, FL.
Visitation will be held Thursday, September 27 from 5:30 until 7 o’clock in the evening at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel.
The funeral will be held at 11 o’clock in the morning, Friday, September 28 at Metter United Methodist Church.
Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Adult Bible Class of the Metter United Methodist Church.
Interment will be in Lake Cemetery.
