Ruth Simpson Trapnell, of Metter and widow of Wallace Kenneth Trapnell, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 10, 2024.
Mrs. Trapnell was born in Cameron, Georgia located in Effingham County. She was a daughter of Rufus B. Simpson and Alice Beth Ann Curl Simpson. Mrs. Trapnell was a member of Metter First Baptist Church and worked several jobs over the years. In her early adult years, Mrs. Trapnell worked for Georgia Power Company in Metter. She later went to work for Jones and Boyd Insurance where she worked for several years. In later years she worked in the Pro Shop of Willow Lake Golf Club alongside her husband, Wallace. She loved catering and cooking for large groups as well as individuals. She kept JOMAX Barbecue and most of Metter well stocked with cakes and candies. She loved to play golf when able and loved spending time with her family and friends. Mrs. Trapnell was known for her one-liners and when asked How are you? She would comeback with “I have felt better, but it cost me more.” Another of her great sayings includes “I hesitate to prevaricate on such a most delicate subject”. She was a sweet soul who never complained and was always willing to help others. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Trapnell was preceded in death by a son, Ken Trapnell, two brothers and four sisters.
Surviving are her son, Kris Trapnell (Tammy) of Metter; a daughter, Kathy Trapnell Wade (Raymond Swann) of Metter; three granddaughters, Kendyl Wade Boxell (Clayton), Lesley Trapnell (Brandon) and Blair Rackett (Zach); two great-grandchildren, Lily Rackett and Molly Rackett; and several nieces and nephews.
