Robert Padgett

Robert Padgett, 74, passed away Saturday, November 12, 2022, at Community Hospice of Vidalia.

He was a son of Grady and Louise McCullough Padgett, Sr. After completing the eleventh grade, Robert enlisted in the the United States Army at the age of seventeen.  He volunteered to serve in the Vietnam War and because he served during the TET Offense, he received his high school diploma from Collins High School.  During his tour of duty in Vietnam, one of his duties was grave registration and when he returned state side, he served on the burial detail at Ft. Louis in Washington.  He was honorably discharged from the United States Army in August of 1969 and some of the medals he received included the Expert Marksmanship Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.  In the years after serving his country, he worked as a lineman and a heavy machine operator.  Robert enjoyed fishing and sitting around the BBQ pit with family and friends. Robert was of the Baptist faith.  He enjoyed riding dirt roads, and he lived life to the fullest.  He said he had a “Good Life”.   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Shane Padgett and a brother, Johnny Padgett.

Surviving are his wife, Diann Padgett; his son, Chad Padgett (Mitzie); a daughter-in-law, Alisa Padgett; his grandchildren, C.J. Padgett (Sarah), Austin Padgett, Caitlyn Padgett, Madison Padgett and Lane Padgett; great grandchildren, Ava Collins and Alaya Padgett; his brothers, Jesse Padgett (Laverne), Jerry Padgett (Wanda), Grady Padgett, Jr. (Margie); sister-in-law; Reba Padgett; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 16, 2022, from 12 noon until 1:30 p.m. at New Life Baptist Church.

The funeral service will be Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at 1:30 p.m. at New Life Baptist Church.

Interment will be at Sunlight Cemetery.
