Ray Daniel Mills Sr.

Ray Daniel Mills Sr., of Metter, Ga, passed away Friday morning, August 25, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loved ones.

Ray was born on April 9, 1939, to Wade and Sallie Mills in Metter, Georgia. In 1973 he married the love of his life, Betty Jo. On June 27th of this year, they celebrated 50 years of marriage together. He was the proud owner of Candler Package Shop, also known as Ray's Place, for nearly 60 years. He was known for his easygoing nature and his knack for telling the best stories. He was a simple man who was greatly admired by those around him.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Paul Mills and Robert Lee Mills.

He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Jo Mills; a son, Ray “Tater” (Sam Bates) Mills Jr.; a daughter, Dawn (Michael) Parker; granddaughters, Carson (Trace) Padgett, and Kensley (Chase) Johnson; and a great-grandchild, Cope Padgett.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Monday, August 28th at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel in Metter, GA.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 PM on Sunday, August 27, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, in Metter, Ga.

Interment will follow at Primitive Grove Cemetery.
