Ray Lamar Lanier,94, of Metter died at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro.
Born in Cobbtown, he was a son of John N. and Ara Collins Lanier. Mr. Lanier was a member of the Metter Primitive Baptist Church, having been an ordained deacon. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II having served in the South Pacific. After returning to Candler County, he became a farmer and settled into married life and started a family. Mr. Lanier and his wife Barbara owned and operated Lanier Furniture Store for twenty-three years. Mr. Lanier was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan for twenty years where he was a season ticket holder and he was an Atlanta Braves fan. He was a fan of Metter High School football and attended many of the games. He enjoyed traveling to the mountains with his wife and family in years past. In addition to his parents, Mr. Lanier was preceded in death by his wife Barbara.
Surviving are his two daughters, Lynn Lanier Bohannon of Metter and Lori Lanier of Pooler; two grandchildren, Jonathon Tyson, (Dana) of Daisy and Ashley Bohannon of Stilson; and a great-grandchild, Athena Tyson; and several nieces and nephews.
The Funeral will be held Friday at 11 o’clock in the morning at Metter Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Michael Newman officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour at the church.
Interment will be in Lake Cemetery.
