Philip Dean Powell, 90, died Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Community Hospice in Vidalia. Born in Polk County Florida, Dean has been a lifelong resident of Cobbtown. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Dean farmed for many years, side by side with his wife, Mildred and continued farming and gardening even after his retirement. Dean also enjoyed fixing up his cars.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Madison Cicero and Josephine Missouri Akins Powell; wife Mildred Coleman Powell and two sisters, Helen Moore and Betty P. Branch
Survivors are two sons and a daughter-in-law Jimmie and Melba Powell of Vidalia and Eddie Powell of Warner Robins; a brother, John W. Powell of Cobbtown; two grandchildren, Joel Powell and Heather Williams and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July, 21, 2014 at 11:00 am at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel with Dr. Roger Branch, Sr. officiating. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Sunlight Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Edward Kennedy, Raymond Brown, Wesley Coley, Steve Sewell, Wiley Sumner and Robert Colson. Guestbook: www.kennedyfuneralhomechapels.com.
