Minerva Josephine "Jo" Chapman Price

Minerva Josephine "Jo" Chapman Price, 86, died Tuesday, September 09, 2014, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born in Emanuel County and was of the Baptist faith. After graduating from Emanuel County Institute, she traveled in the military with her husband, USAF Staff Sergeant, Carlton Price, also an Emanuel County native. After his death in 1960, she settled back in Georgia with four small children to rear. Jo worked as a teller at an Emanuel County Bank; was a secretary for McDougal Motors in Claxton and Brent Walker Ford for several years before retiring from Holiday Inn Express in Metter.
This wonderful woman was a loving mother, mother-in-law, sister and aunt, but her greatest love was for her family and being known by all as "Grannie Jo".
She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Phillip Darwin Price and Jan Irwin Price; parents, John Daniel and Bertha Turner Chapman; siblings, DJ, Ruby, Rita, Reva, Roberta, Julia Mae, Dub and John.
Survivors are two daughters and a son-in-law, Gwen and Charles Jones of Monroe and Jackie Price of Metter; a daughter-in-law, Karon L. Price of Statesboro; two sisters, Shirley Messinger of Columbus, Betty (Bruce) Bales of Kansas; eleven grandchildren, Chris Wilson, Jody Wilson, Wendi (Stacey) Keelin, and John (Tiffany) Price all of Metter, Tom Jones of Atlanta, Tracey (Tim) Clark of Cary, NC, Phillip Price of Millen, Justin (Tanis) Price, Jeremy (Ann) Price, Benji (Daisy) Lewis and Jamie (Lindsey) Lewis all of Statesboro. Grannie Jo also has 24 great grandchildren, a great-great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Ogeechee Area Hospice and her special care giver, Amanda Holloway.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, 2:00 pm, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, with Rev. Jim Hethcox officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, 6-8 pm at the funeral home.
