Mildred Everest Mayo Jarriel Sears

Mildred Everest Mayo Jarriel Sears, 98, of Vidalia, passed away peacefully at home on November 11, 2015 Born in Toombs County, Georgia on April 3, 1917, she was the daughter of Wiley Tillman and Mary Belle (Moseley) Mayo. She was the great granddaughter of Confederate soldiers Wiley C. Mayo and Clement Cuyler Moseley, and the great-great-great granddaughter of Revolutionary War soldier William Brantley Moseley, one of the early settlers of Emanuel County. Mildred was fond of remembering her childhood growing up on the farm. She was one of eleven children. Upon graduating from Lyons High School in 1933, she married Ted Curtis Jarriel of Ohoopee, Georgia. Mildred and her sister Vera Mayo Fine of Metter, spent many years researching their family genealogy. Learning from where their ancestors came, where they settled, and what they contributed to the founding of America, gave them great pleasure and a sense of pride in their family history.

Mildred was a member of First Baptist Church in Vidalia, the Steadfast Sunday School Class and Morning Women On Mission. She was a member and past president of the Metter Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, a member of the Early New York Frontier Chapter, National Society Daughters of Founders and Patriots, a member of the John W. Jones Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy, and The Georgia Division of the National Society Magna Charta Dames and Barons. She was also a past president of The Vidalia Woman's Club, and held offices in Vidalia Women's Auxiliary, American Legion Post 97. She was predeceased by husband Ted C. Jarriel, Sr. and second husband Truitt H. Sears, daughter Dorothy J. Scott, two grandsons, Irime Pierre Manuel and Nathan Paul Manuel and a son-in-law, the late W. Lamar Samples of Metter. She is survived by her Son Ted Curtis (Loretta Robinson) Jarriel of Dublin, Georgia, Daughters Mary Dean (John R.) Landers of Liverpool, New York, Laurita Samples of Metter, Georgia, and Angela Redding of Lyons, Georgia; seven grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday 2:00 pm, November 14, 2015 in the old sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Vidalia, with burial in the Ohoopee Cemetery. The body will lie in state at 1:00 pm. Dr. Stanley Roberts will officiate with Rev. Don Moye assisting. Pallbearers will be great grandsons; Blake and Beau Roberts, Haiz Webb, Jonathan Brand, Seth Alden, Andrew Samples, Ben Andrews and Nathan Andrews.
