Melinda Dean Clifton, 74, of Metter died Thursday, July 02, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family. Born in Toccoa, Georgia, the daughter of the late Richard Brown Dean and Rosalee Richardson Dean, she had lived most of her life in Metter. Melinda was a 1963 graduate of the University of Georgia. She was a member of the Metter First Baptist and Ruth Sunday School Class serving on many various committees of the church. Working in her community, she was a member of the Pinewood Garden Club and served on the Depot Restoration Board. Melinda was half of the inspiration to begin and operate Clifton, Inc.
Survivors are her husband of 52 years, Ralph Clifton of Metter; daughter and son-in-law, Leigh and Breck Chambers of Milledgeville; son and daughter-in-law, Wes and Traci Clifton of Metter; four grandchildren, Ridge Chambers, Morgan, Emily and Reid Clifton; a brother, Brown (Jo) Dean; two sisters, Rebecca Kennemur and Terry (Bobby) Edmonds all of Martin, Georgia; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, 2:00 pm, July 5, 2015 at the Metter First Baptist Church with Dr. William Perry officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 pm, Friday, July 3, 2015, (no service on Saturday, July 4th). Pallbearers will be Danny Olliff, Brinson Lanier, Mark Bland, Frank Franklin, Billy Patterson and Butch Lane. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Hulsey, John Robert Bowen, R.E.
