Mary Frances Chester Young, 75, died Thursday, June 29, 2017 at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro.

Born in Cobbtown she was a daughter of Buddie Chester and Helen Gordon Chester.  She was a 1957 graduate of Metter High School. She lived most of her adult life in Vidalia where she worked for Oxford Industries as a seamstress.  Mrs. Young moved to Statesboro a number of years ago.  She was a Baptist and loved to cook, having been known for her cakes.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harvel Melton Young, a sister, Patricia Diane Chester, and three brothers, Thomas Chester, Robert Chester, and Donald Chester.

Surviving are her daughter, Donna Young Mincey (Tommy – deceased) of Statesboro; five sisters, Dorothy Faye Johnson (Bobby – deceased) of Guyton, Kaye Goff (Jerry) of Uvalda, Gail Russell (Nate) of Kentucky, Brenda Kersey (Steve) of Metter, and Karen Chester of Statesboro; her pets that she called her “fur babies”, April, Francy, Kyra, Alexis, Miracle, Baby Doll, Meg, and Camouflage; and a host of nieces and nephews throughout the states.

Visitation will be held Sunday, July 2, 2017 from 5 until 7 o’clock in the evening at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel.

The funeral will be held Monday, July 3, 2017 at 11 o’clock in the morning at the graveside in Collins Baptist Church Cemetery.
