The Celebration of Life service for Mary Anne Young will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel in Metter. A pre-service visitation time with family will be held from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. in the chapel.
Mary Anne Young, 84, of Metter passed away on January 5, 2022, at Emanuel Medical Center in Swainsboro after a short illness. She was born in Elmira, NY on April 17, 1937, to the late Clayton and Bessie C. O’Hara.
Mary Anne was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Brannen, and a son-in-law, Grant Hendricks, both of Metter.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Charles “Chuck” Young Sr.; sons, Charles “Charlie” (Denise) Young, Jr. of Claxton, Albert (Vicki) Young of Sugar Hill; daughters, Cheryl Hendricks of Metter and Shawna (Harrell) King of Bainbridge. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren.
Mary Anne was an associate broker for Melton Realty and a broker for Candler Realty in Metter for many years before retiring. Prior to moving to Metter she served southwest Georgia as an associate broker for Burke Realty in Donalsonville and Century 21 in Bainbridge. She served many years in regional realty associations. Prior to her real estate career she worked many years as a teller for various local banks in the towns where they lived.
Mary Anne was a charter member of Lake Seminole Lions Club near Donalsonville and later a member of the Metter Lions Club. She was a member of Metter United Methodist Church since 1998, and a member of the Emmaus Community. At Metter United Methodist Church, she was very involved in the prayer shawl ministry which provided hand knitted or crocheted prayer shawls to individuals who were sick, home-bround and grieving.
Mary Anne was an avid reader of novels and a collector of many items involving elephants and colorful roosters. She loved to make cookies for family and friends and especially loved trying new dessert recipes. She was known for her chocolate delight which was often requested. She dearly loved her family and was the official record keeper of all important dates and activities for the family. She kept a written record of every birth, wedding, death or any other activity that involved her family members. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
