Mary Lou Collins Hendrix, 90, of Metter passed away Sunday, October 11, 2015, surrounded by her family at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro. Born in Reidsville, she was the daughter of Willard M. and Marie Coursey Collins. Living in Candler County most of her life, she was a member of the Metter Church of God and the Ladies Auxillary. Mrs. Hendrix was employed at Metter Manufacturing Company over 40 years and was a great seamstress, quilter and cook. Her family was her most precious possession.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Frank Hendrix, who died in May of this year; a sister, Juanita Odum; three brothers, Freddie, Collis and James "Jim" Collins and a son-in-law, Jimmy Mikell.
Survivors are three sons, G.W. (Josephine) Hendrix of Metter, Franklin (Janice) Hendrix of Statesboro, and Robert (Doris) Hendrix of Cobbtown; two daughters, Patsy Mikell and Jackie (Jimmy) Humphrey both of Metter; two brothers, Curtis (Grace) Collins and George (Sue) Collins both of Statesboro; two sisters, Martha Dean Wilbanks and Margie (Jack) Hendrix both of Statesboro; 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hendrix will be held Tuesday, 3:00 pm, at the Metter Church of God with Rev. Julian Stromm and Rev. Varney Aspinwall officiating. Burial will be in the Primitive Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, 6-8 pm, at the funeral home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Tony Mikell, Bill Hendrix, Bryan Hendrix, Josh Humphery, Johnny Brown and nephew, Steven Whitaker. Guest book: www.kennedyfuneralhomes.com.
