Marilyn Flewallen Mixon Donaldson, 80, of Metter died Thursday, August 27, 2015 at East Georgia Regional Hospital. Born in Provo, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Roy Horace and Margaret Louise Flewallen. Living most of her life in Metter, she was a member of Metter First Baptist Church and the Ruth's Sunday School Class. For many of her working years, she and her first husband travelled all over the United States designing and selling crafts. Marilyn was also a calligrapher. A most enthusiastic Christian, she gave words of encouragement to everyone. Known as "Grandy", she was a grandmother who would sit in the dirt to make mud pies with her grandchildren.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Bobby Mixon and a brother, Larry Flewallen.
Survivors are her husband of 15 years, James Berry Donaldson of Metter; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Ellen Mixon; a daughter, Wanda Mixon all of Birmingham, AL; two step-sons, Berry (Bonnie) Donaldson, Jr. of Metter and Baxter (Sally) Donaldson of Lexington, SC; three sisters, Doris (Roy) Gunn and Martha Burford all of Graham, WA and Pricilla (Phil) Scott of Metter; a sister-in-law, Judy (Craig) Winkler; two brothers-in-law, Bernard (Faye) Mixon of Bell Bluff and William (Claire) Donaldson of Metter; two grandchildren, Amy Bowden and Isaac Mixon; and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, 2:30 pm, at Metter First Baptist Church with Richard Mixon and Rev. Tom Osborne officiating. Burial will be in the Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, 5-7 pm, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Sidney Lanier, Michael Thigpen, Jim Donaldson, Bill Bird, Randy Durden and Stevie Lanier.
