Lorena Beasley Durden, 89, of Metter died Thursday, February 20, 2014, at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro. Born in Bulloch County, she was the daughter of Clem G. and Claudia Lee Beasley. Lorena was a 1941 Statesboro High School graduate where she played basketball. Living in Candler County most of her life, she retired as a Supervisor at Twin City Manufacturing Company and was a great seamstress. She was a member of the Metter First Baptist Church and the Naomi Ester Sunday School Class. Preceding her in death were her parents; a sister, Gwendolyn Littlefield; two brothers, C.G. Beasley and Vernon Mincey.
Survivors are her husband of 69 years, G.W. Durden of Metter; two sisters, Nadine Wilson of Savannah and Margaret Thompson (Russell) Collins of Swainsboro; a sister-in-law, Ada Beasley of Savannah; and many nieces and nephews she loved so much.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, 2:00 pm, at the Metter First Baptist Church with Elder Tommy Rountree and Rev. William Thompson officiating. Burial will be in the Antioch Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday evening, 6:00-8:00 pm, at the funeral home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral hour. Pallbearers will be nephews, Tommy Watson, Ronny Wilson, Rodney Rau, Madison Durden, Lee Durden and Gerald Lewis. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Naomi Ester Sunday School Class.
