Lora Collins Williford, age 84, of Cobbtown, GA, passed away Monday, November 14, 2022.
Born April 24, 1938, in Metter, GA, she was the daughter of the late TJ and Juanita Collins. Lora spent her career as a high school English teacher having taught in Claxton, GA, as well as Metter, with the majority of her years at Metter High School.Throughout her 32-year teaching career, she touched the lives of many young adults in the community. In addition to introducing students to such literary greats as “The Odyssey” and “The Fountainhead,” she also worked with the high school’s performing arts program encouraging and supporting students as they braved the stage.Lora was a voracious reader, gardener, and animal lover. She adored her grandchildren who affectionately called her “MeMe.” She was a member of Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband of fifty- five years, Lindsey Ralph Williford; two daughters, Amy Williford McGlamery of Statesboro, GA, and April Williford Cameron of Anderson, SC; three grandchildren, Jackson McGlamery, Avery Cameron, and Cooper Cameron; and her brother Joey Collins, sister-in-law Hilda Collins, nephew Peyton Collins (Jennifer), and great nephew TJ Collins.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, November 19, 2022, at 4:30 p.m. at the Wilcox Auditorium at the Board of Education in Metter. A celebration of life will follow at the Candler County Historical Society.
