Linda Faye Sapp Assad, 79 passed away on June 7, 2020, surrounded by family. Linda was born in Candler County to Robert Hoy Sapp and Ruby Lee Jarriel Sapp on August 16, 1940. Her mother, Ruby Lee passed away when Linda was three years old. Her mother’s sister, Gladys Jarriel Singleton and her husband, Joe Singleton raised Linda as their child. Linda called them “Mama Gladys” and “Papa Joe”. Papa Joe died in 1981 and Mama Gladys died in 1997. Linda was raised in Collins, GA and she graduated from Collins High School in 1958. Linda obtained her RN degree from St. Joseph School of Nursing in Savannah, GA. She also graduated with a Master of Science degree in Nursing from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC. Linda worked in several hospitals in North Carolina. She also worked at the VA hospital for several years and was a traveling nurse. Linda spent her career caring for others and volunteering for the American Red Cross and Hospice. She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Hugh Rogers of O’Brien, FL, Jerry Sapp of Darien, GA; sisters Irma Jean Sapp Green (Bo) of Brunswick, GA and Mattie Colleen Sapp Finch (Bill) of Moncks Corner, SC.
Linda is survived by her husband, James S. Assad of Shelby,NC; sons Karl Najib Assad (Debbie) of Blacksburg, SC, Rafi J. Assad (Deborah) of Flat Rock, NC; daughter, LaWana Assad Abernathy (Preston) of Apopka, FL; sister, Janice Sapp of Collins, GA; brother, Joey Singleton (Diane) of Collins, GA; and two sister-in-laws, Janice H. Sapp of Darien, GA and Lori Rogers of O’Brien, FL. She leaves nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren, six nephews and three nieces.
Due to pandemic, a private memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2020, at 11 o’clock in the morning at Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church.
Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, of Cobbtown is in charge of the arrangements.
