Laverne Jarriel Beasley, 74, of the Hillview Community died Sunday, December 13, 2015, at her home. Born in Savannah, she was the daughter of Vernon and Geraldine Smith Jarriel. A 1959 graduate of Collins High School, she was a graduate of Georgia Teachers College now Georgia Southern University. She lived in Augusta a few years before returning to Tattnall County to live near the family home. Laverne retired in 2005 from Claxton Middle School where she taught 6th grade math. She was an active member of the Rogers Baptist Church serving many duties of the church. Laverne was a devoted caregiver to her mother and to her husband, Al. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and loved helping others.
Preceding her in death was her husband of 49 years, Al Beasley and her parents.
Survivors are a son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Carole Beasley of Glennville; a daughter and son-in-law, Tonya and Larry Blocker of Claxton; a sister, Teresa Van Goidtsnoven of Fernandina, FL; and four grandchildren, Hannah and Joshua Beasley, Carson and Sidney Blocker.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 11:00 am, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, with Rev. David Daus officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, 6-8 pm, at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Larry Blocker, Kenneth Beasley, Kevin Beasley, Gary Claxton, Mike Jones and Beau Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons, Carson Blocker and Joshua Beasley.
