Larry William Johnson

Larry William Johnson, 73, of Collins, passed away Saturday morning, May 25, 2024, at his residence.

Larry was born in Metter on October 27, 1950. He was the son of Larry Johnson, who passed away when he was just four years old.  He was raised by Franklin Johnson, who was like a father to him, and his mother, Carolyn Hensley Johnson.   He lived in Collins for many years and started his career at Georgia State Prison at the age of 19 years old.  He worked there for thirty years in many positions until his retirement as a K-9 Handler several years ago.  Larry was a dog trainer having trained bloodhounds for the prison as well as other institutions.  He enjoyed the sport of boxing and even coached boxing at the Georgia State Prison during his career there. Larry was a member of New Life Baptist Church where he and his wife Ann attended. He enjoyed hunting, running dogs for deer hunting, and guns.  He enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren whom he loved dearly.  He was a great storyteller when it came to the subject of the old days.  In addition to his parents, a brother, Lane Johnson and a sister, Linda Hickman.

Surviving are his wife, Ann Johnson of Collins, his children, Michael Lynn (Tracy)  of Collins, Scott Lynn (Betsy) of Claxton, Brandon Johnson of Tarrytown, and Brooke Johnson Holland (Jamey) of Pulaski;  his grandchildren, Tyler Lynn, Cayla Bradley, Raleigh Lynn, Cadence Lynn, Cassidi Lynn, Jackson Johnson, Ava Johnson, Ali Holland, Anniston Holland, and Adaline Johnson; his uncle and aunt, Leonard and Louise Johnson of Pooler; a brother-in-law, Danny Collins of Collins; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The funeral will be held at 3 o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday, May 26, 2024, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, in Cobbtown with Elder Mike Newman officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1 until 3 o’clock in the afternoon on May 26, 2024, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, of Cobbtown.

Interment will be in Sunlight Cemetery.
