Kathryn Elaine Cowan, 62, of Metter died Tuesday, October 08, 2013, at the Candler County Hospital. She was born in Camilla, Georgia, the daughter of the late Harvey Henry and Bobbie Bolton Meinders. She moved to Metter five years ago from Gallatin, TN and is a member of the Metter United Methodist Church. Kathryn was a 1973 Georgia Southern graduate receiving a B.S. Degree in Education. She taught Special Education in several local schools here. In 1979, she moved to Alaska teaching school there and later worked for the state government in securing grants. After moving to Tennessee, Kathryn purchased a Service Master Fire and Flood Restoration franchise. After retirement in 2002, she pursued her antiquing interest opening Kathryn's Unique Antiques in Metter.

Survivors are her husband, Jimmie W. Cowan of Metter; step-children, David Cowan of Indianapolis, IN; Amy Travelstead of Acworth; a brother and his wife, Hank and Valerie Meinders of Alberton, Iowa; three sisters, Barbara O'Laughlin and her husband, Bob of Knoxville, TN, Deana Luke of Stone Mountain and Mindy Meinders of Des Moines, Iowa; nephews and nieces, Patrick O'Laughlin and his wife, Nicole, Crysta Luke, Chatham Luke and Kaleen Lounsburg; three step-grandchildren, Brock, Haden and Grant Travelstead; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jane and Bill Dekle of Metter, Don and Betty Cowan of Watkinsville; longtime best friends, Beverly and Larry Wright of Metter.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, 3:00 PM, at the Metter United Methodist Church with Rev. Whit Byram officiating. Remembrances may be made to the Metter United Methodist Church, POB 595, Metter, GA 30439. Please sign guest book at: www.kennedyfuneralhomechapels.com.
