Julia Smith Coursey, 93, of Metter passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at her home under Community Hospice care. She was born in Truetlen County, the daughter of Bothel and Vinnie Smith. She worked at Twin City Manufacturing and Argo Manufacturing finishing her working career at BC Moore in Metter. Julia continued to work part time at Moore's as a sales clerk, which she loved, until she was more than 80 years old. Julia loved her family and made wonderful meals and delicious pound cakes for them. She enjoyed reading, cross stitching, visiting with friends and family. She loved the outdoors having a garden for many years and was a member of the Cool Springs Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband of 67 years, Joe Coursey, Sr.; a son, Joe Coursey, Jr.; two sisters, Lily Nelson and Evelyn Driggers; and a brother, Lonnie Smith.

Survivors are a son, Ray Coursey (Charlotte) of Metter; daughter-in-law, June Coursey of Metter; three grandchildren, David Coursey (Sandy) of Metter, Chip Coursey (Dawn) of Reynolds and Heather Donaldson (Jim) of Metter; two step-grandchildren, Justin Jones (Amy) of Savannah and Catie J. McWhiter (Philip) of Statham; two brothers, B.J. Smith of Tuttle, Oklahoma and Jimmy Smith (Carol) of Troy, Alabama; six great grandchildren, Darin, Benton and Ellah Rae Coursey, Megan Coursey, Dylan and Gatlin Holloway; three step-great grandchildren, Lauren Rhoney, Sophie and Zachary McWhirter.

Funeral services will be held Friday, 11:00 am, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, with Rev. Whit Byram officiating. Burial will be in the Coursey Family Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral time. Pallbearers will be Denton Coursey, Darin Coursey, Dylan Holloway, Gatlin Holloway, Bobby Scott and Justin Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be Betty Dixon, Eloise Hutsen, Peggy Hughes, Cheryl Faircloth, Annie Hughes, Yvonne Davis, Mary Scott and Lugreta Lawrence.

Remembrances may be made to Community Hospice, POB 2277, Vidalia, GA, 30475.

Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, of Metter is in charge of arrangements.
