Joyce Woods

Velma “Joyce” G. Woods, of Metter, passed away peacefully on the morning of Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Wellstar Hospital in Augusta.

Born in Wauchula, Florida, Joyce made Metter her home for the past 48 years. She retired from the Physical Therapy Department at Candler County Hospital, where she dedicated her career to the care and well-being of others. A faithful and beloved member of Metter Primitive Baptist Church, Joyce sang in the choir and taught the Trapnell-Dekle Bible Study Class for many, many years enriching the lives of those around her with her warmth and wisdom.

Joyce was also a generous volunteer, devoting her time to the American Red Cross Blood Mobile and serving as a hospital volunteer. Her quick wit and kind heart were cherished by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her granddaughter, Misty Calloway and two step-sons, David Woods and William Woods.

She is survived by her loving husband, William “Harmon” Woods; her daughter, Linda Waters (Tim); her son, Roger Calloway (Sandy); grandchildren, Kendall Harris (Ben), Macy Lewis (McKinley), Trevin Waters, Tray Waters (Amy), and Christian Calloway; great-grandchildren, Raelynn Lewis, Dalton Lewis, Gage Stern, Paisley Holloway, Layton Waters, Lanee Waters, Lakelynn Waters, Trent Waters, and Fynlee Harris; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 14, 2025, at Metter Primitive Baptist Church.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, also at Metter Primitive Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Primitive Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jamie Calloway, Jody Calloway, Ben Harris, Trevin Waters, McKinley Lewis, and Tray Waters.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the Trapnell-Dekle Bible Study Class and the Metter Primitive Baptist Church Choir.

Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, is entrusted with the arrangements.
