Joyce Collins Hargraves

Joyce Collins Johnston Hargraves, a faith filled, Southern lady of 87 years, of Eastman, Georgia, passed from this life on February 3, 2017 after a short illness.
Daughter of Herschel and Veta Collins of Metter, Joyce grew up on a farm with her brother, Robert, attended college at the Georgia State College for Women (now Georgia College & State University) in Milledgeville, and worked and cared for her husband and family tirelessly. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Eastman, Georgia for many years spending time with the grief committee and decorating the church with her wreath creations for Christmas.
She is predeceased by her first husband, Grady Kimball Johnston, who died at age 49 in 1975.
She is survived by her husband, Ralph Hargraves, her daughter, Joy Johnston Roberts (David), her brother, Robert Collins (Gwen), and her granddaughter, Jacqueline Roberts Popp (Matt); also surviving are her step-daughter, Teresa Edenfield; and several step grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
We celebrate the life of a beloved mother, grandmother, wife, sister and friend who brightened the lives of kin and friends, in equal measure. She was a talented and creative artist, a businesswoman, a loving and generous wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be missed by all who enjoyed being around her, for her facile mind, her wit, and for her artistic and culinary talents: her exquisite caramel cakes will be especially missed by her son in law.
Family and friends will gather at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, 223 S.E. Broad Street, Metter, Georgia, for visitation on Tuesday, February 7th from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by a graveside service at 3:30PM and interment near her parents' gravesite at Primitive Grove Baptist Church, Canoochee Road, Metter.
Flowers are welcomed or donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Eastman, 5212 Anson Avenue, Eastman, Ga 31023.
