Elder John “Daniel” Strickland of Pembroke, passed away on Monday, May 23, 2022, at his residence under the care of hospice and his family.
Elder Daniel Strickland was born November 4, 1937, to J. E. and Nell Strickland and entered into the glorious presence of his Savior on May 23, 2022. He married Sister Edna Allen on June 11, 1960, to whom he remained married for 62 years. In his Early twenties, he began work at Union Bag, now Union Camp, and remained employed there until his retirement in 2001. The Stricklands became members of Red Hill Primitive Baptist Church in 1963, and later moved their membership to Lower Mill Creek Church in Statesboro, Georgia. Brother Daniel was ordained to the office of deacon at Lower Mill Creek Church July 24, 1983, and after exercising a speaking gift for a few years in the later 1980’s, was ordained to the work of the gospel ministry March 22, 1992, also at Lower Mill Creek Church. Brother Daniel has served New Hope Primitive Baptist Church, Dublin, Georgia; Bethel Primitive Baptist Church, Glenville, Georgia; and Lower Mill Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Statesboro, Georgia. Brother Daniel and Sister Edna traveled extensively to church meetings sharing a love for the preaching and fellowship. They encouraged many young ministers and their families and sought to promote peace between various factions of Primitive Baptists by visiting and emphasizing commonalities in doctrine, practice, and heritage. In recent days, Brother Daniel has been restricted greatly by the challenges of age and disability. Throughout the journey that has led to this day, Sister Edna has faithfully cared for Brother Daniel and fulfilled her promise “’til death us do part”.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Strickland was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Strickland, who passed at four months old, and a brother, Gerald Strickland.
