John Ainslee Nelson, III, 67, of Metter died August 10, 2016 at his residence.
Mr. Nelson was born in New York, NY and lived in Metter for the past several years. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the 18th Rangers Airborne Unit of The Vietnam War. Mr. Nelson was a recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal w/ Oak leaf, the Purple Heart Medal, Bronze Star with two Oak Leaf for Valor with three awards, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, the Republic of Vietnam Presidential Citation of Commendation, the Unit Presidential Citation for Valor with three Oak Leafs. After his time in service, Mr. Nelson worked as a truck driver before retiring.
Surviving are his mother, Judy Hankins; his children, Christopher John Nelson Ellrod, Andria Nelson Murphy Haggard, Kimberly Walker, Tammy Cowart, and Emily Woods; his siblings Eddie Nelson, Charlie Nelson, Marty Nelson; and four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be held at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glenville, Georgia on Friday, August 19, 2016 at 1 o’clock with full military honors.
