Jessie Nell Mincey Kitchens, of Metter and widow of Bruce G. Kitchens, died Saturday afternoon at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah.
Nell was born in Cedar Crossings and lived in Candler County for most of her life. She was a member of Scarboro Missionary Baptist Church, having attended there for over seventy years. Nell worked for several years at Metter Manufacturing and went on to work for the Candler County Board of Education where she worked in the lunchroom at Metter High School until her retirement. After retirement, she would go on to work part time as a substitute for the Candler County School System. She loved traveling with her family to the mountains and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee was one of the places she loved to visit the most. She was a fan of Dolly Parton and on several occasions, visited Dollywood and took in several of the shows there. Nell was known by many for her cooking and strong work ethic. She loved her family with the purest and fiercest heart. She created a loving home for generations of family and friends to gather and feel her love. In addition to her parents, Jesse and Margie Mincey, and husband, Bruce Kitchens, Nell was preceded in death by her grandson, Jeffery Kitchens and a step-grandson, John Brannen
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Monice and Joey Holloway of Metter; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Steve and Karen Kitchens of Pembroke, Don Kitchens of Metter, and Mike Kitchens of Metter; her brother, William Mincey and his wife, Miriam, of Statetesboro; her sister, Jo Ersch of Louisville, Texas; ten grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 20th at 3:00 p.m. at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, of Metter.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:00 at the funeral home on February 20th.
Interment will be in Antioch Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
