Jasper Remer Franklin, Jr., 81, of the Excelsior Community died Sunday, June 28, 2015, at Azalea Health and Rehabilitation. The oldest son of Jasper Remer and Myrtis Hiers Franklin was born in Savannah but lived most of his life in Candler County. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving in Guam and was a retired farmer. Remer was a member of the Excelsior Baptist Church and the Metter Masonic Lodge. A wonderful husband, father and PaPa, he loved to hunt, fish and take care of his cows.
Survivors are his wife of 63 years, Mary Deal Franklin; three daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine and Bobby Odom of Metter, Ellen and Buddy Nail of Cobbtown, Tina and John Hall of Lawrenceville; four brothers, Ned (Joyce) Franklin of Metter, Jerry (Ida) Franklin of Farmington, CT, Pernal (Cathy) Franklin of Metter and Marty (Terri) Franklin of Pulaski; two sisters, Doris (Kelton) Cook and Jenny (Joe) DeLoach both of Metter; seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews;
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 11:00 am, at the Excelsior Baptist Church with Rev. Gene Hiers officiating. Burial will be in the Excelsior Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, 6-8 pm, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel. Pallbearers will be Grady Franklin, Al Jones, Gene Odom, Robert Franklin, Bill Dekle and Clyde Bruner. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons, nephews and Anderson Parrish. Remembrances may be made to the Excelsior Baptist Church, 13048 Excelsior Church Rd., Metter, Georgia, 30439.
