James C. "Uncle Buck" Pointer

James C. “Uncle Buck” Pointer, III, 66, of Lyons and formerly of Claxton died late Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at Serenity Place Hospice in Dublin.

Born in Paduka, Kentucky, he was a son of James C. Pointer, II and Sue Forgy Beck.  Buck was a retired Paramedic having earned his National Registered Paramedic status.  He earned his education as a paramedic at Georgia Southern University.  Buck served as one of the first team members for the first EMS on Fort Stewart/Hunter beginning in 1986.  He worked his way up to EMS supervisor with the Civil Service during his years there and worked for several counties with EMS including Chatham, Evans, and Effingham counties. Buck was well known in the model aviation community and for his love for the hobby.  He taught many, many people how to fly Remote-Control Aircraft.  Buck had huge heart and a love for family, friends, and he was always willing to lend a hand and help those in need. In addition to his parents, Buck was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Butch Pointer and his step-father, Joel R. Beck.

Surviving are his wife, Jan Strickland Pointer of Lyons; two daughters, Debbie Lynn Blocker and her husband, Matt of Claxton and Genie Pointer Collins and her husband, Zeke of Reidsville; his brother, Donald “Bud” Pointer of Auburndale, Florida; three grandchildren, Aaron Blocker of Claxton, Jacob Blocker of Claxton, and Emmalynn Collins of Reidsville; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held 3 o’clock in the afternoon Sunday, January 26, 2020 at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel.

Visitation will be held from 2 until 3 o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday, January 26, 2020 at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel.
