James Buie “Jimmy” Leverett, Jr., 62, of Metter died Wednesday evening, January 16, 2019 at Grace Gardens.

Jimmy was born and lived all his life in Metter and was a member of the Metter Primitive Baptist Church. He was a 1974 graduate of Metter High School and loved sports.  During his high school years, he was a member of the Metter Tiger Basketball Team as well as the Metter Tiger Baseball Team or as others called them at the time, the “Blue Goose Team”. He was known in Metter Baseball for the two “No-Hitters” he pitched during his high school career.  After high school, Jimmy attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and when he returned to Metter, went to work with Pineland Telephone.  He retired from Pineland Telephone Company after twenty-eight years of service.  He loved hunting, trapping, and fishing.

Surviving are his father, James “Buie” Leverret, Sr. and Betty Woodcock Leverett both of Metter; his sister and brother-in-law, Lisa and Mike Purvis of Metter; his son, Dustan Leverett of Swainsboro; his daughter, Cheyene Leverett of Swainsboro; a grandson, Nixon; and two nephews, Austin Purvis and Matthew Purvis both of Metter.

The funeral service will be held 2 o’clock in the afternoon, Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel.

Visitation will be held from 1 until 2 o’clock Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel.

Interment will be in Lake Cemetery.
