James Alvin Gibbs of Metter died Friday, November 20, 2020 at Parkridge Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Born in Valdosta, Georgia, he was a son of Charles Alvin Gibbs and Carlynn Guest Gibbs. Mr. Gibbs was retired having worked for both Crider Poultry for eighteen years and RR Donnelly in Metter as a supervisor. He was a member of Cedar Street Baptist Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, entertaining family and friends as well as wood working, golfing, and grilling. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Geneva Ann Sanders Gibbs, his brothers, Harry Gibbs, Gerald Guest, and Lanier Guest, and a stepson, Jeff Bandy.
Surviving are his wife Deanie Clements Gibbs of Lafayette; Daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and Norman Brown, Robin and Joey Wright, Beth and Kelvin Beasley, Jamie and Butch Braner and Kellie Miller all of Metter; his stepson, Jeremy Bandy; his brother, Robert and Linda Guest of Macon; grandchildren, Reid Brown (Sonya), Josh Brown (Stephanie), Chelsea Sweat (John Mark), Noah Miller (Emily Jackson), Ella Grace Miller, Sarah Simmons, John Simmons, Jr., Emily Braner, Avery Wright, and Dawson Braner; great-grandchildren, Carter Grace, Jameson, Colton, Addie, and Riley; and several nieces and nephews
The family will receive friends Monday, November 23, 2020 from 5 until 7 o’clock in the evening at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, of Metter.
The funeral will be held 11 o’clock in the morning, Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, of Metter with Rev. Bo Fulginiti officiating.
Interment will follow in Lake Cemetery.
