In the late evening hours of January 30, 2016, James "Larry" Sapp died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family. Born in Collins, Georgia, Larry was the son of Adell Sapp and the late Fred Sapp. He grew up on a farm near the town of Collins, and he graduated from Collins High School in 1964. Larry went on to attend Georgia Tech, where he received his degree in electrical engineering. While attending Georgia Tech, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Major prior to his retirement. Also while in the service, Larry earned a Master's Degree from the University of Tennessee Space Institute. Following 20 years of service in the Air Force, Larry opened an office for Southwest Research Institute in Warner Robins, where he was still serving part time.

He was a long time and very active member of Central Baptist Church. Larry served his church in many capacities, including as a deacon and as Chairman of the Building Committee. He was instrumental in securing the property and relocating Central Baptist Church to its current location. His greatest joys were found in serving his Lord, his family, and most particularly, in being an adoring grandfather to his eight beloved grandchildren. He was happily married for 47 years to his eternal love, Carol June (Cowart) Sapp, of Bonaire.

In addition to his wife, Carol, and mother, Adell, Larry leaves behind a son, Shannon E. Sapp (Karen) of Knoxville, Tennessee; daughters, Andrea L. Griner (Wade) of Kathleen; and Kimberly L.
