James Clyde Lanier, Jr, 80, of Metter died Saturday, February 21, 2015, at Ogeechee Area Hospice. A native and lifelong resident, he was the son of the late James Clyde Lanier, Sr. and the late Flora Lanier. He retired in 1986 from Southern Bell which later became AT&T. After retirement, he enjoyed cattle farming, gardening and fishing. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and attended Rosemary Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors are two sons and daughters-in-law, James C. and Montell Lanier of Metter, Johnny and Lisa Lanier of Vidalia; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janie and Len McCook of Statesboro and Jill and Ritchie Bowen of Statesboro; mother of his children, Mary Louise Bird Lanier of Statesboro; seven grandchildren, Landon (Melinda) Lanier, Mallory Lanier, Spencer (Erica) Lanier, Laura McCook (Trey) Thompson, Josh McCook, Brock and Jonathan Bowen and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, 2:30 pm, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, in Metter with Elder Craig Lanier and Pastor Mike Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Rosemary Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Remembrances may be made to Ogeechee Area Hospice, POB 531, Statesboro, GA 30459.
