James Thomas "Tommy" Allen, 65, of Metter died Saturday, May 11, 2013, at Ogeechee Area Hospice. The son of James T. and Vertie Lee R. Allen was a 1965 graduate of Savannah High School. He is an Air Force veteran who served in Vietnam receiving a medal of commendation. In 2004, he retired from Savannah Electric (now Georgia Power). Tommy has been a resident of Metter for the past 17 years. After his retirement, he worked part-time at Trapnell-Tomlinson Ace Hardware. He is a member of the Metter United Methodist Church. Tommy loved his family, his drag racing car, restoring muscle cars and golfing. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Suzanne Allen Fogarty. Survivors are his wife, Ellen R. Allen of Metter; a daughter, Amy (Eric) Horton of Savannah; step-daughter, Faith Coleman of Metter; step-son, Kyle (Brooke) Coleman of Ellabell; a son-in-law, John Fogarty of Savannah; a brother, Kenny Allen of Savannh; six grandchildren, Lily and Alden Horton, Maggie, Ashlyn and Thomas Fogarty, and Emalyn Coleman. Visitation will be Monday, 6-8 PM, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, 11:00 AM, at the Metter United Methodist Church with Rev. Whit Byram officiating. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, 3:00 PM, at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, 315 Greenwich Rd., Savannah.
