Ivey Earl Harper, 91, of Metter, passed away Sunday morning January 28, 2024, at his home.
Ivey was born in Candler County, to Onnie and Leila Collins Harper, on April 3, 1932. He spent a few years of his life living in Miami, Florida, but for the past 56 years he has been part of the Metter community. During his time living in Miami, he was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Ivey retired from many years of doing paint and body work for Ford Motor Company in Miami and in Statesboro, Ga. He also spent time serving our country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. For many years Ivey was married to his loving wife, Katherine “Kitty” Shaw Harper, who passed before him. After his retirement, Ivey enjoyed hunting and taking care of his garden. He loved living at his home out in the country. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Katherine “Kitty” Shaw Harper; a son, Everett Earl Harper; his brothers, Warren, William, and Larry Harper; and sisters, Willene Duggan, Mildred Bragg, Lexi Coston, Thelma Edenfield, and Lucille Gillerpie.
He is survived by a son, Edgar Harper; a granddaughter, Katie (Dwight) Harper Johnson; a grandson, Douglas (Amanda) Mincey; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at 4 o’clock in the afternoon, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, of Metter.
Private interment will follow.
