Helen (Wilson) Flanders

Helen W. Flanders, 92, of Metter, got her angel wings, Sunday, June 3, 2018. She was born and raised in Emanuel County and was the daughter of Ola and Hudson T. Wilson. Helen attended school in Swainsboro before marrying Carlton L. Flanders. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Through the years Helen worked in textiles and with Concerted Services in Metter. She also cared for different elderly people in their homes. Helen never met a stranger and always tried to find some good in everyone and everything. She enjoyed entertaining during the holidays, working in her flower garden and baking. One of Helen's favorite things was to go get her hair fixed so she could meet up with her friends and visit. When Helen visited with her sisters, she enjoyed reminiscing and having good laughs and would be considered the clown of the group. Helen loved to eat fish. She would choose to have fish over a steak any day. She also enjoyed eating Papa Bucks ribs and potato salad.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Donald and her two sisters, Sybel Hall and Margaret Hughes.

Survivors are her daughter and son-in-law, Demarris and David Googe of Metter; sisters, Bobbi Overstreet of Swainsboro, Franki Donaldson of Swainsboro, and Loretta Santiago of Louisville; grandchildren and their spouses, Brian and Brandy Flanders of Cobbtown, Daphnee Evans of Dublin, Carla and Jimmy Hershberger of Metter, and Christopher Googe of Savannah; great grandchildren Brianna and Bryson Flanders of Cobbtown, Malorie and Trent Lewis of Metter, Robert and David Wilburn of Metter and Haleigh Googe of Guyton; one great-great granddaughter, Charlie Grace Lewis of Metter and many loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at 11:00 am at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel with burial to follow in the Lake Cemetery.
