Grant Preston Hendricks, 60, died early Friday, February 12, 2016 at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro, Georgia. Born on April 3, 1955 in Augusta, Georgia, Grant was the son of Lorine Olliff Hendricks and the late Willie Preston Hendricks. He was a 1973 graduate of Metter High School and received a degree in forestry from ABAC. Grant matriculated to the University of Georgia where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Order, Alpha Mu Chapter.
After graduating from Georgia Southern University he began his career with Georgia Farm Bureau Insurance Company and in 1987 joined the firm of Blount, Ansley and Sorrier Insurors. He was partner and Executive Vice President of Blount, Burke, Wimberly and Hendricks Insurors form 1993 to 2011.
Grant was a member of the Metter Primitive Baptist Church and was a former board member of the Candler County Board of Education. Following his love of golf, Grant was a member and served on the Board of Directors of Willow Lake Golf Club. An avid sportsman, he was Chairman of the Canoochee National Wild Turkey Federation.
Surviving are his daughter, Alexandria Caroline Hendricks of Charleston, South Carolina; his mother, Lorine Olliff Hendricks of Metter; two sisters, Kay Hendricks Meeks and her husband, Waldo of Statesboro and Willette Hendricks Strickland and her husband Sam of Albany; a niece, Catherine Merida Strickland of Atlanta; three nephews, Jason Wayne Gibbs and his wife Lisa of Lexington, South Carolina, Scott Preston Gibbs of Rome, Georgia and Samuel Matthew Strickland of Albany, Georgia; and the mother of his daughter, Cheryl Hendricks of Metter.
The family will receive friends at home, 22639 Hendricks Road, Metter, Georgia, from 3:00-7:00 pm, on Sunday, February 14, 2016.
The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock on Monday at Upper Lotts Creek Primitive Baptist Church with Reverend Joey Fennell and Elder Mike Newman officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Upper Lotts Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bruce Fortner, Jason Gibbs, Scott Gibbs, Matt Strickland, Tommy Norton, Sam Bradford, Tommy Gillis, and Stanley Lucas. Honorary Pallbearers will be Marc Bruce, William Lanier, Kenny Howard, Mike Baker, George Haggerty, Jack Shippey, Terry Bostick, David Miller, Clay Hill, Alan Colley, Craig Corbett, Jimmy Leverett, Benjie Williams and his beloved caregivers; Stanley Lucas, Faye Cowart, Bob Miller, Teresa Barber, Teresa Lucas, Angie McCullough, and Betty Sue Weyandt.
