George Lamar Powell

George Powell, 59, of Cobbtown died Monday, July 22, 2013, at his home under the care of his family and Ogeechee Area Hospice. The son of George Benjamin and Euna Mae Collins Powell, he has lived in Cobbtown all of his life. Farming and family was most important to him. George was an avid George Jones fan. He was preceded in death by his father, and a brother, Jerry Lee Powell.

Survivors are his wife of 35 years, Angie Sewell Powell of Cobbtown; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jerry Lee Powell of Cobbtown and Josh Lamar and Olivia Powell of Reidsville; his mother, Euna Mae P. Oglesby; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gerald and Annie Powell, Jimmy and Judy Powell all of Cobbtown; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Russell Fordham of Metter, Jenny and Tommy DeLoach of Claxton; several nieces and nephews and a grand dog, Sophie.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, 4:00 PM, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, with Rev. Joey Holloway officiating. Burial will be in the Sunlight Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, 6-8 PM, at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Gerald Powell, Jr., Justin Powell, Jeremy Curl, Barry Booth, Billy Mock and Ricky Huggins. Remembrances may be made to Ogeechee Area Hospice, POB 531, Statesboro, GA 30459.
