Gene Kennedy Hiers

Gene Kennedy Hiers, 91, of Macon and formerly of Metter, passed away late Sunday, April 10, 2022 in Macon, Georgia

Mr. Hiers was born in Candler County and was the son of Johnnie Aubrey Hiers and Janie Lou Salter Hiers. Mr. Hiers married Reba Nesbitt on June 16, 1956. He was ordained on June 4, 1955. He received his BA from Mercer University in 1959 and his Master of Divinity in 1963 from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wade Forest, NC. Mr. Hiers pastored many churches over the years; which included nine in GA and two in NC. He and his wife, Reba, enjoyed traveling and together they visited more than fifty countries including Australia and the Holy Land.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Hiers and two sisters, Iris Graham and Joanne Mead.

Surviving him are his wife, Reba Nesbitt Hiers; son, Gainer Hiers of Picayune, MS (Dorothy); a daughter and son-in-law, Regina Young of Perry, GA (Bubba); a daughter-in-law, Beth Hiers of San Destin, FL; his grandchildren, James Hiers (Ann), Savannah Hiers, Maddison “Maddie” Hiers and Riley Young; one great-granddaughter, Penny Joan Hiers; and several nieces nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 3 o’clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, of Metter.

The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 o’clock at the funeral home on Wednesday.

Interment will be in Lake Church Cemetery.
