Gene Willie Lynn, 84, of Collins died Monday, May 13, 2013, at Candler/St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah. Born in Collins, he was the son of Daniel and Kate Collins Lynn. A 1946 graduate of Collins High School, he also attended business school in Atlanta. Gene was a four year veteran of the United States Navy serving aboard the USS Hollister. After farming for a time, he moved to Miami, FL where he was foreman at Holsum Bakery. In 1972, he returned to Collins where he worked in shipping at Claxton Manufacturing and later retired from the Georgia State Prison. Gene was a member of the Pine Grove Baptist Church and an avid gardener. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harold Lynn and D.J. Lynn; four sisters, Inez Lynn, Eva Lee L. Pittman, Carolyn L. Martin and Lois L. Giebner. Survivors are a son, Gregory K. Lynn of Collins; two brothers, Lavanda Lynn and Wendell Lynn both of Collins; two sisters, Katherine Bass of Reidsville and Sue Nell Farmer of Panama City, FL; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday, 3:30 PM, at Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church with Rev. Carl Ledbetter officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Visitation will be Wednesday, 6-8 PM at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel.
